The Basic Slate
The basic slate comes with the 17 ID tags you see here. Everything you need to let post know what's on your tracks.
3 ways to personalize your slate
An example day
The
job: A corporate video. The morning is spent doing a few one
person interviews in an office, questions not needed, and the afternoon
is in a warehouse, with beauty shots of products.
The crew: Director, DP, myself.

The ventilation is quite noisy and can't be turned
off, so I double mic it.

Everything
went well, except for the truck
backing-up just outside the
office in the middle of an interview. It's time for some quiet. I think the slate
sticks
out more in post than a wide shot of the set
or a shot of my boom mic.

While
the director and DP are taking care of shot 43
(man walking by the
reception area - wide) and
43-A (man walking by the reception area -
medium),
I'm wrapping the set-up so that we can all go to
lunch faster.
But I want post to know that this isn't
my sound.

Back
from lunch. Directions are clear; the audio will
be music and the interviews we did in
the morning. I
give my back a break by putting the bag down, and I
help out with lights. But the director and
client are
yakking it up while the camera's
rolling so, in order
to protect the innocent, I don't put any audio
down.
But I want post to know that the lack of sound is not
a mistake.
